Wells has been a caterer, band director, home builder, commercial construction superintendent, consultant, free-lance writer, French horn player and bureaucrat.  After some resistance, the following magazines published his work: TriQuarterly, Fiction International, Chicago Review, The Falcon, Nit & Wit, Audience, Texas Parade, and Texas Monthly.  His book publications include Calling Texas Home and Theo the Indian Fighter.
